Over 50 Members and Wives were in attendance for the annual Knights of the Southern Cross Victoria Annual Thanksgiving and Founders Day Mass and Lunch on Saturday February 15. The Mass was held in its usual location of St Clare’s Church Box Hill North, celebrated by KSC Victoria State Chaplain Fr Tony Kerin. Fr Kerin’s Homily, with accompanying slideshow, reflected in part on the Gospel of the Mass (Mark 8:1-10), about the feeding of the multitudes (in this case the feeding of the “4,000”, as opposed to the more famous feeding of the “5,000”). Fr Kerin’s Homily also reflected on the First Reading of that Mass (1 Kings 12: 26-32, 13:33-34), the story of Jeroboam and Rehoboam, Kings of Israel and Judah respectively, who continually served their own interests rather than serving God. Fr Kerin also discussed the 2020 KSC Formation Program, and the role the Order can play in the forthcoming Plenary Council to be held later this year. At the conclusion of the Mass, State Chairman Carmine Miranda recited the KSC Membership Pledge, with Members in attendance renewing their Membership Pledge for the year ahead.
Following Mass, all those in attendance gathered to the Church Foyer, where a light luncheon was organised and provided by the Knights Consultor Division of the KSCV. During the luncheon, the State Chairman gave a short address, where he outlined the KSC events of 2020, which include the annual KSCV barbeque ‘Barney’s Picnic’ in Barnawatha on Divine Mercy Sunday, the KSCV State Seminar in June, and KSCV’s flagship event, the annual KSC Archbishop’s Dinner for the Priests Support and Education Fund on Friday August 21 at Moonee Valley Racecourse. The State Chairman also noted that 2022 will be the centenary of the KSC in Victoria, and that big events will be planned to celebrate this great milestone. The luncheon concluded shortly after midday, with all going away happy.
